00:35:13 <bfgiant> peter1138[d]: I'm very excited to see the work you're doing on this. Unserious non-suggestion: Can you add a linked on-map visualization view of the indistry chains to the PR? π

05:15:24 <andythenorth[d]> different PR π
05:15:35 <andythenorth[d]> but we have an overlay for drawing lines for cargodist

08:54:38 <sir_nonsinn> I'm playing around with this a bit right now. Has anyone tried implementing bridges this way before? Is this something that's wanted? Would this be a useful feature?
09:07:37 <LordAro> i suppose it saves terraforming
09:20:14 <peter1138> "Link to smallmap", what about "Link to industry directory"?

13:57:19 <peter1138[d]> Is my signalling correct?
14:01:03 <LordAro> needs signals on depot exit
14:01:34 <peter1138[d]> Turns out I built one of the trains in the wrong depot, so, uh...
14:08:52 <Rubidium> oh, you didn't enable depot-spread yet? ;)
14:09:52 <LordAro> feature, create trains in the nearest depot to their first destination
14:28:20 <peter1138> Ah, of course, Azure VMs don't let you send email.

16:45:06 <_glx_> I don't want to imagine a 16in/16out π
16:45:39 <andythenorth[d]> I never had the courage to make one

17:11:39 <Rubidium> _glx_: try to imagine 240 industries producing and accepting the same cargo. That tooltip will be unwieldy, and the UI as well. Though combining it with 16 cargos of acceptance and production will be even more fun!
17:32:26 <peter1138> I guess the tooltips are not strictly needed as that's what the chart is for anyway.
17:35:02 <peter1138> Rito can probably knocn up a quick NewGRF to test the limits ;-)
17:42:47 <peter1138> Of course, houses don't actually have a limit of 16 in/out cargo types.
17:43:23 <peter1138> So for stress testing it, you'd have to bump up the cargo chain limit to 64 cargo types.
17:46:13 <andythenorth[d]> imagine how this would work with more cargos π¬
18:01:45 <andythenorth[d]> did the scale? π
18:02:25 <peter1138> Yes. But that's not included for now.
18:02:35 <peter1138> Anyway. I think I'm done here now.
18:02:43 <peter1138> Box cColours excepting I guess.
18:26:36 <rito12_13> peter1138: π It needs Firs3 to work though

21:17:17 <anstol> Hey folks, I'd like to contribute a PR with a feature, here's the PoC screenshot (note the list of orders in the vehicle list + the tooltip ofc), but before I spend the time to code it properly, what's the path to review the proposal it with people who'll be reviewing the PR to see if it's something that's considered merge-worthy?
21:17:17 <anstol> I read the contributions guidelines, I think it aligns with the project goals, but of course there's also maintainer's discretion. Also maybe I'm not seeing some broader context.
21:17:17 <anstol> (Apologies for the PR messages above, jumped the gun a bit, I meant to cut a PR against my own fork)
21:19:00 <_jgr_> Take a look at CONTRIBUTING.md, PRs written by Claude aren't going to get accepted
21:19:13 <anstol> Yeah I know, that's a PoC
21:21:31 <anstol> It was only meant to 1/ check if it will look as nice in the UI as it did in my head, and 2/ to have something to screenshot when asking the question above instead of having a lengthy explanation of the idea
21:28:48 <peter1138> I don't to deal with people who willingly use this slop.

22:12:06 <talltyler> Regardless of how it was written, I personally donβt think adding more text is a good way to show what a vehicle does on the map. Iβd much rather see a visual representation, as in JGRPP, that draws an overlay showing the vehicleβs orders in the game world.
22:12:45 <talltyler> That would likely be easy to upstream or rewrite (by a human) for anyone interested.
22:31:05 <anstol> Thanks Tyler, that's exactly the feedback I was looking for. Let me check JGR's version. π
22:32:08 <anstol> Though I must say, I was solving for a case of managing the whole fleet, when you have a bunch of 3-4 bus routes with shared orders, it's impossible to tell which one is which from the current list alone. Need to click through.
22:46:52 <mmtunligit> like one shared order list that codes for multiple routes?
22:49:47 <mmtunligit> it seems kinda like youve looked at the group window and not understood that you can make groups to put vehicles into, instead of just looking at the "all vehicles" group
22:50:39 <mmtunligit> pretty sure when youve put them into a group and then go to the all vehicles group itll even mention the group name in the vehicle list
22:53:43 <anstol> No, I got that, thanks. I was cleaning up after I cloned a bunch buses but sometimes without shared orders, and then I wanted to merge the ones that follow the same route, but don't share orders.
22:55:31 <mmtunligit> you can click on a station and in the station window theres a button which will show you all vehicles that visit that station, that'll get you what you want i think
22:56:31 <mmtunligit> unless every station your route visits is a transfer station, but even then you can sort that vehicle list by group, which won't totally help but its a start
23:00:55 <mmtunligit> you can also sort by shared orders
23:02:05 <mmtunligit> or i think its techincally grouping the list by shared orders, and then sorting by some other criteria
23:02:16 <mmtunligit> its not well communicated
23:03:24 <mmtunligit> what is the difference between sorting and grouping you ask?
23:03:41 <mmtunligit> one is called sorting and the other is called grouping
23:03:53 <mmtunligit> and it sorts within groups, not groups within sorts
23:04:11 <mmtunligit> (i may have been staring at the code for these windows a fair bit recently)
23:05:07 <mmtunligit> "maybe we should have better docs"
