11:30:10 <talltyler> Do we ever deny a translator access because their profile is 100% slop repositories?
11:30:27 <andythenorth[d]> that's not a written policy
11:30:36 <andythenorth[d]> I could see why we would
11:30:53 <andythenorth[d]> but to be quite transparent, will it also be extended to bananas?
11:30:59 <talltyler> Agreed, although we have no written policies on translators, just an assumption that people will do their best
11:31:14 <talltyler> Bananas is third-party content, not translations for our game
11:31:17 <andythenorth[d]> LLM performance at translation is generally strong
11:31:25 <andythenorth[d]> it's the original use case for transformers
11:31:53 <andythenorth[d]> how much of existing translation was pre-LLM google translate?
11:32:03 <andythenorth[d]> why is one form of ML ok, but not another? 👀
11:32:48 <andythenorth[d]> I'm not advocating that we accept "I yoloed my openclaw at it with github creds"
11:33:04 <talltyler> I guess I understand what you were worried about with FIRS translations you couldn't verify were legit, like a year ago
11:33:28 <andythenorth[d]> I was, but that's a specific compliance risk arising from mixing personal and work
11:33:38 <andythenorth[d]> unique to me I think
11:33:55 <LordAro> oh god, why would you bring that up again? :p
11:34:09 <andythenorth[d]> if someone wants to have their agents translate and commit, they can also have their agents build openttd locally
11:34:18 <talltyler> But there's nothing stopping existing translators from sabotaging translations, nor new people getting access without us noticing, so it's probably fine
11:35:29 <talltyler> Figuring out which internet strangers to trust is always weird, I guess
11:35:46 <andythenorth[d]> or their agents
11:35:57 <talltyler> I do not trust agents
11:36:02 <talltyler> They do not have brains
11:36:08 <andythenorth[d]> weirdly, in one possible future, their agents are more trustworthy
11:36:15 <andythenorth[d]> that future is not here yet
13:13:33 <peter1138> Someone used their agent to do a bulk Wiki translation already.
13:18:34 <will_marshall_> is there a term for someone who might deep-down mean well but ultimately ends up making an absolute nuisance of themselves?
13:19:15 <will_marshall_> (bearing in mind that I think a lot of the people being annoying with AI crap don't mean well at all and actually just want to flex some new technology/capability for nebulous booster reasons)
13:19:47 <will_marshall_> "Engineer Brain" (Derogatory)
13:23:04 <peter1138> talltyler, is it also reasonable to that a translator has actually played the game?
13:27:06 <andythenorth[d]> will_marshall_: human?
13:28:57 <peter1138> 12:31 < andythenorth[d]> how much of existing translation was pre-LLM google translate?
13:29:26 <peter1138> From what I understand, the LLM stuff produces worse results, it just looks feasible to people who don't know.
13:29:46 <peter1138> Much like all of it really.
13:36:32 <squirejames> Sounds like my marriage

16:48:44 <peter1138[d]> Is this better or worse?
16:49:22 <belajalilija> will_marshall_: unuseful idiots
16:49:51 <andythenorth[d]> peter1138[d]: is it chunky? 👀
16:50:10 <peter1138[d]> Current for reference
16:50:23 <andythenorth[d]> It's net neutral, but I like it
16:50:23 *** WormnestAndroid has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection)
16:50:42 <andythenorth[d]> white on yellow has some contrast 'oh my eyes' challenges
16:50:43 <peter1138> Oh I haven't put the blobs back yet.
16:50:49 *** WormnestAndroid has joined #openttd
16:51:10 <peter1138> Doesn't need to be white, nor yellow, I guess.
16:51:10 <andythenorth[d]> the black outline cargo flows is nice
16:51:15 *** WormnestAndroid has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection)
16:51:28 <andythenorth[d]> the green is for black holes?

16:52:19 <tabytac> I definitely like any change to the industry/cargo chain window. Think this is a step in the right direction
16:52:36 <peter1138> Light blue for out-only, green for in-only, yellow for both in & out. Grey for houses.
16:54:19 <peter1138> andythenorth[d], could also be a place to show badges, which currently only appear in the industry funding window.
16:55:06 <andythenorth[d]> there's no helping people who do this eh
16:55:45 <andythenorth[d]> hmm zoom, independent of UI scale? 😮
16:55:58 <belajalilija> this reminds me of a thing
16:56:18 <belajalilija> i just dont know what
16:56:58 <peter1138> Well, because FIRS has different supplies for the industries, they all appear yellow.
16:57:28 <peter1138> Except scrap yard and builders yard.
16:58:24 <peter1138> But yeah, the design is still based on a grid, so all industries are the same size regardless of the number inputs.
17:02:34 <belajalilija> andythenorth[d]:
17:05:50 <talltyler> Shame on me for failing the reading comprehension test, the instructions say devs should put the approve or deny in the "first line of your comment" 😅
17:17:24 <peter1138> Oh yeah I need to fix that comment.
17:21:00 <peter1138> Hmm, maybe it would be better if the lines didn't continue it the very top/bottom.

19:02:57 <belajalilija> whats this train length thing?

19:15:17 <talltyler> Screenshots are in the PR 🙂
19:16:52 <belajalilija> i thought we had it
19:16:58 <belajalilija> unless it was jgrpp feature
19:17:13 *** WormnestAndroid has joined #openttd
19:17:14 <belajalilija> in which case its really nice to see it in vanilla because its something i look at often
19:19:07 <belajalilija> esp useful with irregular grfs (like mine) that work outside of the half tile vehicle size default
19:23:04 <talltyler> Vanilla and JGRPP use different layouts for vehicle windows. It's new to vanilla.
21:11:15 <talltyler> Fixed the feedback and changed the date tomorrow. Looks like the changelog needs an update now. 😄
21:12:39 <talltyler> Wait, uh, screwed up the date somehow
21:13:03 <talltyler> Set it to the day after the original post, not the day after today 😛
21:19:42 <talltyler> Socials text and image added to the PR.

21:25:19 <talltyler> peter1138: On the industry chain viewer, I quite like what you've got, particularly the colour-coding of in/out/both/houses.
21:27:22 <talltyler> White text on the yellow boxes is a bit harsh, we use black on yellow elsewhere but other text in that window might need to stay black. Maybe keep the text white, change the yellow?
21:28:21 <talltyler> I've also been ruined by _zephyris 's nice fonts, the pixel font looks bad to me now 😭

23:00:50 <peter1138[d]> Perfect. Spoke to a lad in the pub who knew of openttd
23:08:00 <peter1138> talltyler, yeah, colours were basically arbitrary.

23:26:53 <peter1138[d]> Probably changing it to e windowed fullscreen instead of exclusive fullscreen would help.
23:26:58 <andythenorth[d]> you are all awake too late 😛
23:27:38 <peter1138[d]> Have to get up in 6 hours
23:28:33 <andythenorth[d]> you're just up early then, not late
23:29:07 <peter1138[d]> I might have made a grave mistake.
23:29:25 <talltyler> I am in a timezone where being awake makes sense 🙂
23:29:29 <talltyler> About to eat a late dinner
23:31:09 <peter1138[d]> Quick someone approve it
23:39:18 <squirejames> Time is an illusion, lunch time doubly so
23:42:27 <andythenorth[d]> hmm is this new FIRS supposed to be hard mode? Or just "moar"?
continue to next day ⏵
