00:06:37 *** SigHunter has joined #openttd
00:32:10 <peter1138> ^ should we backport that one?
01:13:48 <_glx_> main issue when adding mappings is scripts relying on previous mapping
01:14:32 <_glx_> so it's probably best to not backport
01:15:14 <peter1138> Oh, should I revert?
01:16:22 <_glx_> old scripts may break, but it's still an improvement
01:16:47 <_glx_> not the first time we add mappings
01:17:59 <_glx_> authors relying on `ERR_UNKNOWN` when they could ask for better mappings 🙂

07:54:33 <vaagaithevague> Hi! I've been learning the game for a little while now and would like to contribute in whatever way can
07:55:43 <vaagaithevague> Is there anything that I can help out on while still getting to grips with the game and codebase?
09:03:30 <LordAro> no guarantees any of them are actually a "good first issue", mind
09:18:13 <kuhnovic> My advise would be to just find something that you want to make / change / bothers you, and try to do it. Get your hands dirty, get familiar with the code. You might even stumble on things by accident where you think "hey, I can improve this".
09:21:14 <ahyangyi> Don't have to jump in game development itself, you can toy with the game ecosystem -- its existing forks, NewGRFs, scenarios, heightmaps, game scripts, AIs, etc.
09:21:14 <ahyangyi> Much of the development is to provide better interface to NewGRFs / Game Scripts / AIs rather than changing the gameplay directly, so familiarity with the existing ones helps.
10:04:11 <_zephyris> (and, if you go for addon development, Discord channel #add-on-development is super useful)

17:08:31 <LordAro> i mean we knew that the UX changes weren't "complete"
17:08:40 <LordAro> the tricky bit is knowing what to do next
17:37:23 <peter1138> The attitude is wrong :)
17:37:42 <peter1138> They edited their post after my comment.
17:38:40 <_zephyris> The online content is useful there for scenario/heightmap download, not just newgrfs and ais
17:40:05 <goddess_ishtar> does anyone actually download many scenarios?
17:40:20 <mmtunligit> i would if there were any good ones but i already have all of those
17:51:10 <peter1138> Anything else to backport?
18:06:04 <kuhnovic> Colored scenario editor signs!
18:28:56 <goddess_ishtar> oh, wait, should we show a ghost when placing signals?
18:29:28 <goddess_ishtar> it does some magic about which way it's facing based on your mouse position in the tile but everywhere else we do that, we show what would be placed
18:29:35 <goddess_ishtar> signals just highlight the whole tile
20:19:10 <_zephyris> goddess_ishtar: Nope, no direction magic. Just click to cycle.
20:20:51 <_zephyris> Might be an interesting alternate UI design, would need a prototype to see if it helps though
20:21:29 <_zephyris> I do wonder if new autoroad selectors would help with occasional complaints about roads being hard to build
20:22:16 <goddess_ishtar> _zephyris: I assumed there was, given that the default signal direction is the opposite I want to place them in with a frequency that strains plausibility :p
20:46:17 <_zephyris> Same sprites could be used for one way road construction (which I also find confusing)]
