10:35:21 <Wakou> Good day folks, is the 32bpp 'Extra-Zoom' version still going or is it abandoned?
10:38:59 <Zuu> 1.2 have support for extra zoom graphics built in. However using a different way of providing new graphics than the 'Extra-Zoom' patch
10:40:11 <Zuu> Eg. if you have lots of graphics in the old format, you have to use the 'Extra-Zoom' patch, but if you want to use graphics packed in the new way (in NewGRFs), you can use 1.2.1 or a recent nightly.
10:42:07 <Wakou> Ohh! TY Ty! I have just competely re-installed everything, so that is good!
10:42:47 <Wakou> How do I? The wiki says 'this is out of date' after 1.1.xxx
10:43:51 <Wakou> So I have openSuse Linux, with 1.2.1
10:44:20 <Zuu> Grab a NewGRF with 32bit graphics from online content download and it usually just works.
10:45:06 <Zuu> Mind that there is currently not a lot of 32bit graphics packed as NewGRFs.
10:45:53 <Wakou> Zuu: TY I think I already have it, just need the right graphics as you say..
10:46:00 <Zuu> If you filter the online content dialog with "32" you'll find a NewGRF with 32 bit trains.
10:51:34 <Alberth> OpenGFX+trains nightly has 32bits graphics
10:59:42 <Wakou> Hmmm, it comes down to just one, 8/32bpp trains 2cc, but I don't get any 32bpp graphics at all...
11:00:11 <Wakou> Do i still need to adjust the 'blitter' in the .cfg?
11:01:06 <frosch123> no, you just have to add the grf in the newgrf setting ofc
11:04:06 <frosch123> the 8bpp/32bpp thingie has a very limited selection of graphics, i think ogfx+trains has more
11:04:10 <Wakou> Hmm still no joy here :(
11:04:17 <frosch123> but i think it is not yet on bananas in a 32bpp version
11:04:51 <Alberth> Wakou: we need loads of 3d models for the new graphics
11:06:12 <Alberth> it takes time to make them all
11:08:52 <Wakou> frosch123: TY TY!, That is what I was after.. I am getting no 32bpp at all, not trees or any buildings etc?
11:09:17 <frosch123> currently you only get trains and the big explosion
11:09:21 <Alberth> there are no NewGRFs with those graphics yet
11:09:37 <Alberth> there are no models of them, even :)
11:09:40 <frosch123> 32bpp progress has always been slow :)
11:10:52 <Wakou> Ah!, So 1.2 needs to be completely redone?.... Should I regress to an earlier version?
11:11:32 <frosch123> your decision :) i would prefer other features over 32bpp any day
11:12:31 <Wakou> But I still can't even get to where you are in your scrnshot..
11:13:41 <Wakou> I don't get those trains or veh's 'Dash' 'Floss' et
11:14:55 *** Chris_Booth has joined #openttd
11:14:59 <frosch123> you have to play temperate climate and you need to be in the appropiate year
11:15:46 <Wakou> frosch123: So Start year = 2000?
11:16:26 <frosch123> 1960 should be enough
11:16:48 <frosch123> mm dmu is mid 1950s
11:17:48 <Anson> i read the message "server is restarting, please wait" ... how long shall i wait ? ... is that a bug ?
11:18:43 *** FLHerne has joined #openttd
11:18:43 <frosch123> depends on what kind of map the server tries to generate
11:19:01 <frosch123> generating a 2kx2k map with ecs vectors can take 15 minutes or so :p
11:19:12 <frosch123> more sane maps should generate in a few seconds though
11:20:09 <frosch123> anyway, if the connection dies you will end up in the main screen, and then have to rejoin
11:20:10 <Anson> i am not sure, but i think that on a GRF mismatch, the main screen stays with the "server restart, please wait" message for a very long time ...
11:20:50 <frosch123> hmm, restart with grf changes... no idea, might be that noone ever tested that :)
11:22:43 <Anson> and where do i get the missing grf files ?
11:23:12 <frosch123> if you cannot get them via online content, you have to google
11:25:01 <Terkhen> if you can't find them in the online content, ask the server admin
11:26:22 <Anson> i rarely (last time a year ago) use IRC ... have to look everything up which takes a while
11:44:47 <Wakou> frosch123: ty I got the 32bpp going in yr 2000...
11:45:05 <Wakou> Is much work being done? should I use nightlies?
11:45:31 <Wakou> Or learn how to do them myself :) ?
11:46:44 <frosch123> i am not following that topic closely
11:47:02 <frosch123> not sure how many trains there are in ogfx+trains
11:47:18 <frosch123> the forums have some desert landscape stuff
11:47:25 <frosch123> but i think the grf is not yet released
11:47:41 <frosch123> i think there are only like 2 guys working on it :)
11:51:11 <Terkhen> to my knowledge there is not much going on yet
11:51:41 <Terkhen> OpenGFX+ Trains has a lot of graphics already in 32bpp (I even saw toyland wagons) but that's it
11:51:53 <Terkhen> we need a base set too
12:13:58 <Wakou> Terkhen: I am new to this .grf stuff... where do get see the openGFX+ Traims with the 32bpp? Are screenshots available?
12:15:19 <Terkhen> check the OpenGFX+ Trains development threads at the graphics development subforum

16:55:47 <NGC3982> does the ECS basic vector II replace the beta 5?
17:01:48 <Eddi|zuHause> how should we know?
17:10:54 <Alberth> Eddi|zuHause: it is not that we should know, it is chance versus time versus effort in obtaining the answer.
17:12:06 <Alberth> ie I can post at the place that knows, but that costs effort to find versus I post here without much effort, which might also give an answer, but with much less effort
17:12:38 <Alberth> NGC3982: trouble is, sometimes you gamble wrong :p
17:14:04 <NGC3982> i seem to have created a somewhat faux pas.
17:16:17 <Alberth> NGC3982: you didn't consider any other alternative at all, to getting the answer?
17:16:30 <NGC3982> yes, of course, ive been trying to find it troughout the day
17:16:56 <Alberth> so this channel came out as giving the best odds, apparently
17:17:43 <Alberth> there are 2 threads about that george monitors, you can search/post there, and you should get a reply
17:18:11 <Alberth> well, is deciding the odds not a form of gambling?
17:18:32 <NGC3982> i just didnt see the reference, but now i do. :)
17:18:48 <Eddi|zuHause> DON'T TELL ME MY ODDS!</Han>
17:21:07 <Alberth> hmm, forum search that omits three-letter words is kind of useless in finding ECS :)
17:22:58 <NGC3982> i was there, but i didnt find anything relevant. althought, i think i need to read it again.
17:23:46 <Alberth> post at the forum otherwise in that thread
17:24:36 <NGC3982> "ABANDONED - Merged into Basic vector II"
17:24:45 <NGC3982> so, basic vector beta 5 is not to be used.
17:25:14 <NGC3982> the thing is, it doesnt reject using both in a game, thus i was be-fuddled.
17:32:01 <Eoin> if i save a multiplayer game, can i then buy 100% shares to merge?
17:32:08 <Eoin> not played openttd for like a year :|
17:34:15 <Eddi|zuHause> no, companies founded by a human player cannot be taken over by shares, even if you load it in single player later
17:34:25 <Eddi|zuHause> they can only be taken over if bankrupt
17:36:39 <Eoin> can you bankrupt a company while keeping its trains etc?
17:41:14 <Eddi|zuHause> transfer all money to the other company, stop all trains, and wait three quarters in debt
17:41:45 *** Djohaal has joined #openttd
17:41:45 <Eddi|zuHause> or stop few trains so the others deadlock
17:42:10 <Eoin> or should i do it in single player
17:42:21 <Eddi|zuHause> you can't transfer money in single player
17:42:22 <Eoin> then i can just buy his company when it says

19:33:23 <Wakou> Hi guys, I am non-expert. I dl'ed this : 32bit-gfx-nightly-megapack-2011-04-16.tar, and dropped it in: ~/.openttd/content_download/newgrf/ but it does not show up in new grf's when i start openttd. Should I have put it elsewhere? Or should I un-tar it?

19:34:36 <planetmaker> Wakou: that's not a newgrf but the old unsupported format
19:35:30 <Wakou> planetmaker: !! I thought 'cos it was nightly and recent.... so not compat with 1.2.x?
19:35:44 <planetmaker> recent? A year old?
19:36:22 <Wakou> lolz, I saw 16/04 and thought was last week!.... :(
19:36:47 <planetmaker> Wakou: you can play with 32bpp trains, if you download the nightly build of ogfx+trains newgrf
19:37:15 <Wakou> & I just drop them in the same place?
19:37:58 <planetmaker> though... don't place manually any stuff in .../content_download/...
19:38:06 <planetmaker> use directly ~/.openttd/newgrf
19:38:19 <planetmaker> OpenTTD may do whatever with anything in content_download
19:38:57 <Wakou> A link to the nightlies pls?

20:03:52 <Wakou> planetmaker: Ty for that, and nice work, I opened temperate, 2001, so I have 5 loco's and all rolling stock in 32bpp?
20:04:50 <Zuu> Didn't think GS was that hot. But apparently my new version of Split have been downloaded significantly more of the game script than the scenario.
20:05:04 <planetmaker> I'm not 100% sure. But I think most are 32bpp
20:05:19 <planetmaker> Wakou: they become especially tasty with 4x zoom-in :-)
20:06:12 <planetmaker> actually I think *all* are 32bpp. But... I didn't do a full check on that the last few weeks
20:06:58 <planetmaker> Zuu: people grab everything :-) But ... that GS is worth the grab :-)
20:07:30 <Zuu> both the scenario and the GS are pretty much useless if grabed without the other.
20:07:52 <Zuu> Normal users will not even see the GS in the list of installed GSs :-)
20:08:50 <Zuu> And well, the scenario can be played without the GS, but then there are is no goal.
20:09:31 <Zuu> and you got some weird signs $L=... at some places :-)
20:10:11 <planetmaker> well. I tested it with the scenario ;-)
20:10:53 <Wakou> Curious, I lined up al the loco's at 1 square aprt signals. The 'Floss 47', loco only has a 'footprint' of more than 1 square, is this deliberate?
20:11:45 <Wakou> oops my bad, it just looks like it 'cos the loco is so tiny..
20:11:53 <Zuu> yep, but if you would try to test version 2 of the script with version 1 of the scenario file, the script will make a sucide. But if it wouldn't do that, you would get something 1.5-ish :-)
20:13:06 <Zuu> Actually, also to force it to use version 2 of the script with version 1 of the scenario will at least require you to erase version 1 of the script so it can't be fonud by OpenTTD.
20:13:29 <planetmaker> hm, that's very difficult
20:13:37 <planetmaker> do scripts know a min_compatible_version?
20:13:52 <planetmaker> like to which versions of itself they're backward compatible?
20:13:53 <Zuu> It have something like that
20:14:47 <Zuu> It's called MinVersionToLoad
20:15:34 <Zuu> My GS have it set to the same version as itself. (except for when I'm upgrading the scenario to next script version)
20:16:24 <Zuu> I should add that only scenario GS use this strict idea. My other GS:s and AI:s have backward compatibility often back to version 1.
20:28:04 <planetmaker> :-) makes sense to decide that on a case by case basis. As you seem to do :-)
