03:38:31 *** Phileman is now known as Philemon
04:58:43 <kuhnovic> TallTylerviaGitHub: Can someone merge this one? I don't think I have the superpowers
09:05:49 *** toktik is now known as Guest257
09:11:15 *** Guest257 has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 480 seconds)
09:19:34 <peter1138> mmtunligit, sorry I managed to completely miss that PR :o
10:14:26 *** ic111_42219[d] has quit IRC (Quit: User went offline on Discord a while ago)
10:16:09 <peter1138> (Didn't really review the actual functionality due to talltyler's comment.)
11:30:04 <mmtunligit> no worries, I just don't like how the button reacts when the window looses focus, and i'd like to change it's look as well. that took me down a huge sidequest into making the selector a sort of pseudo toolbar, but kept banging my head against how that interacts with station and waypoint pickers and their toolbars, so i swapped to working on something else until my head is clear enough to work on
12:05:24 <peter1138> TBH it's probably fine to exclude it for stations/waypoints if that makes it easier.
12:08:55 <mmtunligit> peter1138: oh im excluding the button, but you can't really change one picker window in the way i want to without changing them all, or having it all be really ugly (also i want to be able to place random station tiles or waypoints eventually)
12:13:27 <peter1138> Keep making work for my changelog branch :D
12:13:46 <peter1138> mmtunligit, fair enough.
12:28:01 <peter1138> talltyler, that was either a complaint or a request ;-)
12:57:20 *** aperezdc has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 480 seconds)
13:00:04 <tabytac> Have people messed around with the screensaver feature that was merged about a month ago (its in beta2)
13:01:44 <tabytac> was trying it out on some saves i have laying around and it when randomly pick any vehicle from the pool in the game, it seems to mostly pick road vehicles as there are often way more of those than any other vehicle type
13:07:27 <emperorjake> ooh, that was merged? how do I activate it?
13:07:55 <emperorjake> Guess it's not in JGRPP yet
13:08:52 *** reldred has joined #openttd
13:08:52 <reldred> Are there commandline flags to invoke it?
13:09:18 <reldred> Could be fun, auto load last save, go straight to screensaver mode,
13:09:50 <talltyler> Not currently, would be a good PR if you're so inclined 😛
13:10:49 <talltyler> An OpenTTD screensaver would be such a fun public display piece
13:12:43 <_zephyris> I really need some time to test those trees...
13:13:00 <_zephyris> I like the implementation...
13:22:14 <emperorjake> I tried the screensaver mode on NetTrans, haven't gotten a train yet because there are 8000 ships and RVs and only 1000 trains
13:23:17 <emperorjake> but it's very nice, I could watch this for hours
13:26:48 <talltyler> I thought about asking for weighting by vehicle type, but "OpenTTD is a train game that also has other vehicles" seemed like a biased take 😄
13:37:33 <mmtunligit> i feel like at the very least it should be baised against ships, since most of the time its just gonna be empty water
13:39:37 *** aperezdc has joined #openttd
13:43:09 <tabytac> for the screensaver vehcile selection, was thinking about doing a sqr root of each vehicle type so very large or very small numbers get somewhat averaged out
13:45:27 <tabytac> like with 1000 trains and 8000 road vehicles, it goes from 11% to choose and train to about 26% to choose a train
13:48:25 <jfs> oh, exciting to see my ancient deep water patch get picked up...
14:44:37 *** Flygon has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
14:47:58 <kuhnovic> Soon there will be no more openttd PRs, all contributers will just be staring at openttd in screensaver mode all day
16:13:26 <peter1138> _zephyris, treetypes definitely has issues that preclude merging.
16:35:41 <Rubidium> what precludes the 'replace saveload macros with functions' from merging?
16:36:54 <LordAro> someone willing to review it :p
16:43:38 <talltyler> Might be one for after we branch RC1?
16:43:47 <peter1138> Rubidium, I'll take a look
16:45:49 <peter1138> template <typename R = void>
16:46:03 <peter1138> R feels kinda weird.
16:54:31 <LordAro> KB5124008 has made our Windows CI jobs 20 minutes slower :(
16:56:00 <Rubidium> peter1138: that's what std::function uses, though to be honest the users of that template all use T. It's an easy change though.
17:46:53 <peter1138> Hmm, it's a shame that without the macros there are a lot more literal strings.
17:50:22 <Rubidium> yeah, we don't do C++29 yet ;(
17:55:17 <peter1138> Also a shame that there it is still a macro all over it.
17:56:02 <peter1138> Are projections not possible? e.g. `&EngineRenew::from`
18:00:52 <Rubidium> *that* example is possible, `&Foo::bar.baz` is not
18:03:03 <Rubidium> or at least, I haven't been able to make it function right
18:05:12 <_zephyris> peter1138[d]: re. trees, functionality or code?
18:08:05 <Rubidium> IIRC the problem was that you can't extract the 'return' type of such projects/member functions; that functionality was deprecated in C++17 ;(
18:10:13 <Rubidium> so I'm not saying it's impossible, I am saying that I could not find the way how to do it. I'm still hoping someone comes up with something reasonable.
18:34:17 <peter1138> If a way becomes available it will be a better starting position.
18:58:41 <Rubidium> thanks for the review peter1138!
19:02:53 <peter1138[d]> Can't merge as I'm at the pub
19:03:20 <talltyler> kuhnovic: Yes, see the wiki for `prod_cargo_types` and many others in industry spec
19:03:36 <talltyler> Looks like we need a website post too 🙂
19:08:02 <peter1138[d]> There's a fair bit since beta2
19:14:59 <kuhnovic> talltyler: For the double ended ships?
19:18:24 <kuhnovic> Will the next nml version be 0.10.0 something else? Sorry for the questions, first time making change to the wiki
19:20:13 <andythenorth[d]> 0.10.0 or 0.9.x
19:29:15 <LordAro> kuhnovic: one of those, yes
19:56:56 *** audigex has joined #openttd
19:56:56 <audigex> Follow the channel for more software development tips and tricks
20:01:38 <talltyler> For the beta release announcement, but if you want to write a blog post that would be cool 🙂
20:07:12 <peter1138[d]> Doesn't need much for the beta release itself, just a bullet list
20:15:13 <kuhnovic> talltyler: I can do that but I would like to wait until we are a bit closer to OpenTTD 17. I might make some additional changes later on ;). OpenTTD 16 should go first 😛
20:32:07 *** jfs_ has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 480 seconds)
20:41:07 *** Flygon has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
20:43:36 <talltyler> Don't confuse me like that with mentions of
20:43:59 <talltyler> Don't confuse/scare me like that by mentioning OpenTTD 17!
20:44:26 <talltyler> My real job had a big release today ending in 7, and I got very confused 😄
21:09:13 *** Wolf01 has quit IRC (Quit: Once again the world is quick to bury me.)
21:36:58 <audigex> talltyler: Do you work for Apple?
21:37:14 <audigex> Or is it just a coincidence that iOS 27 released today as well as your X7 release?
21:37:24 <talltyler> I do not work for Apple 😄
22:07:19 <andythenorth[d]> by inversion, does that mean Apple work for you?
22:48:40 <talltyler> As much as I disagree with consumerism and am concerned about privacy, yes, my (slightly older, refurbished) iPhone actually does work quite well for me.
22:49:07 <andythenorth[d]> but John Ternus is not your employee?
22:50:52 <talltyler> I am secretly Tim Apple
22:51:04 <andythenorth[d]> I'm Tim Apple
22:51:43 <talltyler> spiderman-pointing.png
22:55:27 <andythenorth[d]> should we rename FMSP to "Farm & Forest Supplies"?
22:55:31 <andythenorth[d]> would still be FMSP
22:56:12 <andythenorth[d]> been bugging me for years, but can't fit dedicated "Forest Supplies" cargo into any sensible chain
23:02:38 <belajalilija> but its a type of farm
23:17:03 <reldred> God I wish we had custom fields
23:17:15 <reldred> I want the forests to be foookin FORESTS
23:17:55 <reldred> Maybe we can cajole someone into doing it so we can have firs6 agri chain 😛
23:18:16 <reldred> And have production penalty for knocking down the field tiles
23:19:25 <belajalilija> reldred: right???
23:19:59 <belajalilija> i think this is how it worked in locomotion
23:20:06 <belajalilija> in reg to penalty
23:20:20 <belajalilija> that game also had tree fields
continue to next day ⏵
